PROJECT TEAM

MSI Chicago’s “You!” Exhibition helps kids learn about the human body in fun, interactive ways.

The Problem

Help MSI Chicago, present their “You!” Exhibition in a new virtual world

solution

We designed an iPad app to bring  the most important takeaway of the exhibition to kids, healthy habits are necessary

About our consumer

Kids are stuck inside and parents are desperately looking for new forms of entertainment to keep them engaged throughout the workday.

Interview insights

Kids are stuck inside and parents are desperately looking for new forms of entertainment to keep them engaged throughout the workday.

brainstorming

We brainstormed dozens of sketches with the goal of making learning about the body enjoyable.

Pleasing parents

Narrowed down ideas to those requiring the least amount of caretaker involvement and began wireframing them.

fueling understanding to boost health

During our interviews some parents mentioned that their kids will listen to their dietary and hygiene requests but may fail to understand the importance. We saw this as an opportunity to help.

VISUAL EXPLORATION

Once we figured out the skeleton we began experimenting with ways of displaying the information by adding a bit of color and fun.

the solution

Gamifying healthy habits so that as your health improves your Mini-You earns points to unlock customization items.

Final Screens
Avatar dashboard

For our example, a kid named Jamie using You-Health is told by Mini-Jamie that they’re really close to meeting their hydration goal, motivating Jamie to drink another cup of water. Through this dashboard, Jamie can also see where they stand relative to other daily health goals.

Activity logging

After Jamie is notified that she is near her daily hydration goal, she is eager to drink another cup of water to earn a star. At the bottom of the screen there are additional learning opportunities.

Rewards redemption

Healthy habits earn stars which can be redeemed by Jamie to treat Mini-Jamie. Our video game research discovered the popularity of video game avatar customization which we leveraged to promote healthy habits.
